Top 3 Tick Species

Help us fund another year of TickSpotters!

The TickEncounter Resource Center at the University of Rhode Island works every day to raise tick literacy and influence best tick bite protection practices. With our forward-thinking initiatives, we're educating and empowering more and more people to take appropriate, effective action before and after a tick bite.

In 2017, our TickSpotters program received over 13,200 submissions, ticks from every U.S. state and Canadian province. Among these submissions, the top three ticks were blacklegged (deer) ticks, American dog ticks, and Lone Star ticks. These reports provide us with critical tick surveillance data and allow us to assess annual and seasonal trends while we provide every submission with time-sensitive disease risk assessment and TickSmart™ prevention information.

For this upcoming year, we will be updating and streamlining our data collection and response process to provide TickSpotters with an enhanced user experience. We consider this free-to-the-public program to be one of our most important endeavors and we need your help this year to raise the funds to keep it going.

One year of software program subscriptions to operate the TickSpotters program costs $2,000 and we anticipate needing another $2,000 to cover the new upgrades. To break this down, if everyone who submitted a TickSpotters report this past year donated just 50 cents, it would cover this enhanced program delivery element for the entire year.

You know it--there are more ticks in more places than ever before. So, how much would you spend to make sure that your family, friends, or even you have a go-to, expert resource for every tickencounter? We ask you to consider a $10 one-time or recurring contribution today. Your critically-needed, tax-deductible donation will help maintain TickSpotter's web-based infrastructure.
